Ryanna is supporting the Council for Watershed Health (CWH) in promoting integrated regional watershed management in the greater Los Angeles region. Her projects include supporting Watershed Coordinators with the Safe Clean Water Program, an initiative that captures and cleans stormwater while generating new opportunities for open space preservation. Ryanna is also conducting water sampling and habitat monitoring in the field to contribute to the LA River Watershed Monitoring Program. Finally, she is helping to develop a needs and strengths assessment for water planning in economically- and environmentally- stressed neighborhoods in the region. The project will use GIS to visualize community-gathered input from over 107 communities within LA to help identify opportunities for green infrastructure investments. This work hopes to uplift community voices to advance water resiliency through multi-benefit, grassroots projects.

Ryanna Fossum, Western Resource Fellow |Ryanna Fossum is a Master of Environmental Management candidate at the Yale School of the Environment. She is interested in exploring integrated regional watershed management in the urbanized West. Prior to Yale, Ryanna researched California water policy to better engage local elected officials with community-led water resilience efforts. More recently, she worked on a range of urban design projects to confront public space challenges in New York City.
